One of the social democracy bastions of Scandinavia, they had a close election. The Social Democrats got 28.4% of the vote, the center right Moderate Party got 19.8% and the far right, anti-immigrant (aka racist) Sweden Democrats got 17.6%. Democracy still has a tenuous hold but corporate oligarchy is right behind them.
"The red-green bloc of center-left, leftist and environmental parties,
led by the Social Democrats, had 40.6 percent of the vote. The
center-right alliance, led by the Moderates, was just behind with 40.3
percent. The results mean neither bloc can command a majority in
Parliament, and both have rejected the idea of any deal with the Sweden
Democrats."
Also see BBC's reporting: "The
SD was linked for years to neo-Nazis and other far-right groups, only
entering parliament in 2010." Even though it's trying to rebrand itself,
"the party has still been embroiled in various racism scandals."
Lipstick on racism.
