What is collective cognition?

The blurb from the Santa Fe Institute:

In the summer of 2014, the Center for Complexity and Collective Computation (C4) organized a working group at the Santa Fe Institute to explore the nascent field of collective cognition. The working group, led by Bryan Daniels, Chris Ellison, and Philip Poon, brought together broad-minded transdisciplinary thinkers, drawing from fields including cognitive science, information theory, evolutionary biology, social science, neuroscience, computer science, machine learning, and statistical physics. This video summarizes the thoughts and speculations of these experts regarding how they view the field of collective cognition and where they would like it to go next.
