And therefore cannot fix it. So said a UN report by Bios, an independent research institute in Finland. We must radically cut emissions and consumption in the next 20 - 30 years. We must rapidly transition to renewable energy. And capitalism will not get us there; we need a different economic system.
It will require electric public transportation and significant reduction in individual car use. Local communities will need to grow the food they need instead of importing over vast distances. Plant-based diets are critical as well as greatly reducing meat and dairy production and use. The report sees Bernie Sanders as one who is seeking this kind of economic change.
The only quibble is that they don't see the economic system to replace capitalism, and it is already well on its way in the collaborative commons. And Sanders' agenda is prerequisite to implementing it more broadly through governmental infrastructure.
