Following up on this post, see this story. The prior FCC instituted a program, the Lifeline Broadband Program (LBP), whereby ISP's would be subsidized to provide internet access to low-income users. The new FCC blocked that program claiming it needs to evaluate "waste, fraud, and abuse" first, even though there has been no evidence of that to date.
Funny how this conservative canard never gets around to investigating waste, fraud, and abuse in corporate welfare subsidies, which of course would dwarf any such thing in the LBP. That is, if there really is any such chimera in this helpful program, which is highly doubtful. It's a typical conservative lie, while the real motivation is enriching corporations at our expense.
