"'We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress,' Mick Mulvaney, the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau told the American Bankers Association. 'If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.'
"In this statement, Mulvaney tells us everything we need
to know about how Washington works, and why Wall Street, the drug
companies, the military-industrial complex and other wealthy special
interests make billions in campaign contributions. Government should be
about representing ordinary Americans, not just the rich and the
powerful. Now is the time to overturn Citizens United and move toward
public funding of elections."
