What's important these days?

I posted this in a FB IPS thread on deconstruction:

Ok, I'll tell you what I really think Cameron and Layman. I used to have great interest in such topics. Now not so much. I see it as a bunch of eggheads engaging in an activity with little real world impact while inflating intellectualized self importance. I no longer have time for such armchairs, as an oligarchy is destroying lives and the call of democracy requires of us a lot more than such grandiosity. Some think sports are a distraction from our more urgent problems, and they may be to a degree. But what about this?
