"Let
us never forget that Labor Day is not just about picnics, barbecues and
parades. It is about remembering the struggles of incredibly brave men
and women who stood up and fought back against corporate greed, and
sometimes lost their lives in the process. These workers fought to build
the trade union movement. They fought against child labor, low wages
and dangerous working conditions. They fought for decent health care,
pensions and education. They fought to end racism and sexism in the
workforce.
"Labor Day is the time to reflect on those struggles. At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, and an outrageous level of corporate greed, we must never forget the history of the American labor movement and continue the fight for a government and an economy that works for all, and not just the wealthy and powerful."
