If we ever hope to retain a semblance of democracy. Talbot:
"Michelle and Bernie... the two best Democratic vote activators of 2020. Women love her, the progressive base loves him. And they both delivered for Joe Biden this evening. This year's election is more important than any in recent history, Bernie argued -- not only for the Democratic Party but for the progressive movement that has been energizing the party. Another four years of Trump would be an unspeakable horror, both Democratic icons declared. "It is what it is," said Michelle with a heavy voice. A self-described politico-phobe, nobody is a better public speaker than Michelle Obama.
"And the former first lady drove home the dark point in a way that none of her predecessors ever felt necessary: Trump must be defeated by such a lopsided margin that he cannot deny defeat. His forces are already doing everything they can to steal the election, to destroy what's left of American democracy. We simply can't let them.
"In 2016, Andrew Yang pointed out on CNN, Bernie Sanders's support for Hillary Clinton was not full volume. Nor was mine or that of many other progressive activists. But this evening, Yang said, Bernie's strong endorsement equaled that of Michelle Obama for her "good friend."
"We need both fists of the Democratic Party -- Bernie's left hook and the Obamas' clout -- to knock out Trump."
