Continuing this post, here is Senator Warren's petition to support the Act. Please consider signing it. Her email blurb about it is below.
Donald Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to
EIGHT criminal counts this week including a campaign finance law
violation for paying off Stormy Daniels. And he swore under oath that Trump directed him to commit a federal crime.
This has got to stop – and that’s why I’ve just introduced a bill that
is the most sweeping new anti-corruption legislation since Watergate. This
bill would plug huge legal loopholes that encourage sleazy fixers like
Michael Cohen – and make sure people like him don’t get anywhere near
the White House.
This bill needs citizen co-sponsors like you to put pressure on
Washington to clean up its act. Please add your name to support the
Anti-Corruption Act and stop the Trump administration – and any
administration – from rigging the system.
In 2017 and earlier this year, AT&T and Novartis – two giant
corporations – reportedly sent Michael Cohen ginormous amounts of money.
While both companies had business pending before the Trump
administration, they secretly paid Cohen through a shell company.
Cohen doesn’t have any expertise in the telecom or pharmaceutical
industries. It was a pay-for-play deal – and it may have been perfectly
legal.
That’s why the Anti-Corruption act puts a halt to this kind of
influence peddling. If Michael Cohen or someone like him is going to
take more than half a million dollars from giant corporations, then he
has to register as a lobbyist.
Edward, we're going to fight our hearts out in the days, weeks and
months ahead to pass this anti-corruption bill into law. Now’s the time
to speak out against corruption – and we absolutely need you in this
fight with us.
Sign
your name to be a citizen co-sponsor of the Anti-Corruption Act and
help us put an end to corruption in Washington once and for all.
Thanks for being a part of this,
Elizabeth
