Konst: Why the Dem Party won't steal the nomination

Nomiki Konst served on the DNC's 2016 convention platform committee, as well as on the committee that reviewed the nominating process. She provides insight on how the current rules won't allow the Party or superdelegates to steal the nomination.

Since Bernie is the most likely to get a majority of pledged delegates at the convention, the other candidates only hope is to prevent that majority so that the convention is brokered. So Nomiki provides the history of the 2016 election and how the superdelegate process was reformed. Most of the people on that commission were Hillary supporters. Perez appointed all of the people on the Rules Committee, hence the current rules.

Nomiki then tells us why, even with the current rules, rigging the winner will fail. In a 2nd ballot all the pledged delegates are freed to choose. The Bernie delegates will stick with him and some of the others have Bernie as their second choice so will come along. The only path for the other candidates is to get all of the other delegates and all of the superdelegates, highly unlikely.

Another interesting point is that she thinks Warren is going to team up with Biden, not Bernie, because of Warren's rhetoric about being a "unity candidate." It's as if she can act as a mediator with the progressive and centrist wings of the the Party. If that is the case it seems Nomiki undercuts her theory that Bernie would win on a 2nd convention vote if Liz swings her delegates to Biden.

She further tells us to ignore all the stories about it because they are being promoted by media companies and consultants who make money on it. That Bernie has the best chance of winning outright and on a 2nd ballot as well. I'd like to believe her and hope she's right, but I still have serious doubts.
