"Federal agents’ violent crackdown on Portland protesters is just the beginning of Trump’s fascist takeover. His Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, announced over the weekend that the White House would be rolling out a plan to expand federal presence to other cities — namely ones run by Democrats. The plan will be coordinated with Attorney General William Barr and Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf, who said this morning that he doesn’t 'need invitations by the state, state mayors or state governors to do our job. We’re going to do that whether they like us there or not.'

"Hello? Where are the so-called constitutional conservatives who advocate for states’ rights and rail against limited government? Where is Congress, the coequal branch of government meant to serve as a check on executive power? Do Senate Republicans have anything to say about this blatant violation of state authority and unconstitutional suppression of free speech? I fear our nation is vastly unprepared for the lengths Trump is willing to go to preserve his power. Our lawmakers and leaders must act immediately to rein him in — our democracy hangs in the balance."
