Thom asks him specifically about fascism in the US and Chomsky starts by noting that the Repugnantan Party has been accurately described as similar to neo-fascist Parties in Europe. However he also thinks the term 'fascism' is too easily thrown around. There are a number of indicators of it in the US like shock troops to beat up protesters, but he doesn't see it as fascism per se. The latter is an organized movement far beyond the Twit's limited capacities where the dominant Party and leader controll all of society. Rather Twit is a "tin-pot dictator" who caters to the corporations and the rich, who pretty much control the government. (Which, by the way, is how the Italian fascists themselves defined the term. So the US is a form of fascism.)
Chomsky goes on the discuss some very dangerous signs from the Twit, his Disadmininstration and the Repugs we should pay heed to, including the 40-year neoliberal assault on our democracy. He lauds the Black Lives Matter movement, the Sanders and Sunrise movements as examples how we the people are fighting back and making headway.
