CA Senate passes single-payer healthcare

Now it goes to the Assembly. CA has always been the bellwether State, leading the rest of the country on populist issues that become the law of the land eventually. See the following from the Courage Campaign and donate if you can, thanks.

The California State Senate just passed single-payer health care!(1)

This is the biggest state to ever come this far to make single-payer a reality, and it now goes to the California State Assembly. With Trump and the Republicans in Congress getting ready to strip health insurance from 24 million Americans the real solution we need is obvious: single-payer.(2)

The latest study by the California Nurses Association finds that single-payer will save California $37 billion a year -- nearly $1,000 for every man, woman, and child in the state.(3) No more co-pays. No more premiums. No deductibles. Health care for people, not for profit.

Of course, we're already hearing the scare tactics from the other side. Single-payer is "socialized medicine." It will bankrupt the state. It's a "government takeover." But people are finally seeing through that nonsense, and that's why, with the leadership of allies like the California Nurses Association, we were able to pass single-payer last night -- and why we will get this done. Here's what we have planned to get this bill to the governor's desk:
  • We're utilizing a high-tech new phone banking tool that allows volunteers to put phone calls from constituents directly through to legislators' offices.
  • We're organizing face-to-face meetings between Courage Campaign members and their representatives.
  • We're holding Democrats who oppose single-payer accountable for standing with the for-profit insurance industry against the people.
But we need your help to make this happen. Will you chip in $5 to help push the Healthy California Act to victory?

Yours in the fight for health care for all,
Eddie, along with Annie, Brenna, Caitlin, Cheyenne, Emma, Kelsey, Lindsay, Mahdi, Mary, Molly, Raquel, Susannah, Scottie, Tim, and William (the Courage team)
