All in the name of 'national security,' the common euphemism for the erosion of not only freedom of the press but personal freedom as well. See the article for examples.
As is usual in most world surveys of democracy and happiness, Finland, Netherlands and Norway lead the pack in press freedom. Democracies fare better and dictatorships worse. Plutocracies like the US, which are democracies in name only, slide in between.
