Continuing the last post, then of course there's Stein's
blog post on the dangers of going meta. He concludes that the way out
of meta(sta)sizing is doing a different form of metaphysics:
"One
of the ways you know you are actually doing metaphysics is that you can
no longer 'go meta' anymore; instead you must go 'intra' or 'inter' or
'inner.'”
Stein elaborates this different metaphyics
in this piece. Therein, like the previous article above, we must go
beyond merely intellectual meta(sta)sizing into our shared feelings of
embodiment by "adopting metamodern metaphysical characterizations of the
human based on an understanding of love as a transpersonal universal
force akin to gravity [...] a form of cosmo-erotic humanism."
Related to the theme of the previous post:
"Indeed,
many evolutionary theorists fall short of the full implications of what
it means to hold an evolutionary worldview. Engaging in a participatory
metaphysics of Eros involves a realization that evolution is not a
process happening 'out there,' merely to be studied from the
third-person point of view. Our lives and relationships are the very
stuff of evolution. The 'self-organizing universe' continues on through
us; the core of human interiors and consciousness are nothing but
our inheritance of a cosmic evolutionary love. This must be
the basis of any science or psychology of human behavior and
motivation. Reality itself has been shown to be ceaselessly creative and
driven always by an erotic advance into novelty, which means that
ethics needs to be appropriately reconstructed."
