See this article. It shows that overwork in the US is endemic, both for the rich and everyone else. The rich see overwork as a status symbol, as well as participating in the never-ending quest for more because one can never have enough. For everybody else it's a matter of mere survival to pay the bills and eat. It's
one reason I retired 'early,' as while well compensated I was literally
being worked to death. Fuck that. Now, while technically being labeled
in poverty, I have enough to live my simple lifestyle and I've never
been happier.
Which of course the article shows, that the less one works the happier they are because they are free to pursue their true passions. It's also a plug for a guaranteed basic income for the same reasons.
