"Trump has fired another member of his cabinet [Nielson] – whom he wants to blame for everything that’s gone wrong at the border. In fact it’s Trump’s own decisions (to create a border 'crisis,' to separate children from parents, to imprison both, to deny everyone fair consideration of their asylum applications as the law demands, and so on) that are going wrong.
"Whenever something goes wrong, Trump always blames someone else. He even uses anticipatory blame. He’s now sensing that the economy is slowing down, so blames Jerome Powell, his pick for chair of the Fed, in a preemptory move to shift the blame even before the recession hits.
"Harry Truman once quipped that the 'buck stops here,' meaning he took ultimate responsibility for anything that went wrong in his administration. Trump’s view is the 'buck stops over there.'"
