Progressives must own freedom

We must define ourselves and our terms lest others do it for us. Liberals liberate us from oppression and control, providing individual freedom in the context of others in a reciprocal, caring society. Or as Bernie says: Not me, us. In other words, we as individuals need a certain amount of self development to even consider how we work and share with others to make a free society for all. Just thinking about our individual freedom only is selfish and childish, ironically leaving us far less free to explore the higher virtues like love and care for others and the planet.
