In this
story there are now 70 electors that have signed on to a letter to the
Director of National Intelligence. The letter says in part:
"The Constitution envisions the Electoral College as a deliberative body
that plays a critical role in our system of government -- ensuring
that the American people elect a president who is constitutionally
qualified and fit to serve. [...] The
Electors require to know from the intelligence community whether there
are ongoing investigations into ties between Donald Trump, his campaign
or associates, and Russian government interference in the election, the
scope of those investigations, how far those investigations may have
reached, and who was involved in those investigations. We further
require a briefing on all investigative findings, as these matters
directly impact the core factors in our deliberations of whether Mr.
Trump is fit to serve as President of the United States."
I'm glad there are at least a few Electors that take their responsibility seriously. And of course they are all Democrats except 1, so the odds of enough Electors changing the results are nil. Still, it's a good sign that there are still some true patriots left that value the Constitution, not the empty rhetoric of the Republicans.
Update: The Director of National Intelligence is refusing to provide the intelligence briefing, so this is going nowhere. I hope the above 70 Electors still decide though to vote for someone other than the Russian Manchurian candidate.
