Regressives are completely blind by confirmation bias

We all know that everyone has confirmation bias to some degree, i.e., we see what we want to see and refuse to acknowledge any facts conflicting with our presuppositions. But we do not all have this bias to the same degree. Some of us can even be persuaded otherwise given overwhelming facts to the contrary. Recall this study (#12 in this post) that indicates regressives are much more prone to the stubborn form of this malady, whereas progressives are much more likely to change their mind with convincing evidence.

So let's take a case in point. Rep. Ryan commissioned an audit to see if government programs for the poor were effective. His claim is that they are not, that they just enable the poor to be lazy and shiftless. Which of course comes from his regressive ideology. But his audit in fact--yes, the 'fact' word, see the regressives run--showed that government programs were indeed giving the poor a hand up and not a hand out. See the link for the facts. And yet Ryan still claims that these programs are making the problem worse, despite the reported facts.
