Clean electricity in MD, DE and DC

For those of you in these US States, see this from Daily Kos:

It's time to make sure that whenever you use electricity at home, you are using it for a good cause.

Ethical Electric, a new company founded and staffed by progressive movement organizers, has a simple signup form that allows you to immediately stop using fossil fuels and instead use 100% clean wind power.

If you sign up, you will get the same electric bill and same electric service that you get now. What happens is that Ethical Electric starts sending electricity produced entirely from a local wind farm to your current utility provider. And voila, fossil fuels are no longer being burned for you to get electricity.

And for those of us living in Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, switching to clean energy means diverting money from causes progressives oppose. For example, Chairman & CEO of Pepco, Joseph Rigby, is a board member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Washington Gas Energy Services is supplied by Shell, which has invested $10 billion in the tar sands extraction process behind the Keystone XL pipeline. Switching to Ethical Electric will begin to hurt their pocketbooks and help the environment.

The founder of Ethical Electric, Tom Matzzie, has real progressive credentials from his time at MoveOn. Tom and members of his team have stood with us for years on fights like ending the Iraq war and defeating Joe Lieberman in the 2006 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

When it became public Tom was founding an electric company, it was a pretty crazy idea. I mean, who founds an electric company?

Now, it's cleary kind of genius. Ethical Electric has put together an easy way to take direct action against climate change and support other progressive causes at the same time:
  • This is 100% wind power, not a mixture of renewable and fossil fuel sources like you would get from some providers.
  • The wind power is produced in central Pennsylvania, not too far from where you live, through a public-private partnership that benefits a local public school district.
  • A share of Ethical Electric's proceeds are reinvested back into progressive organizations and causes, including Daily Kos. Members vote to determine which causes and organizations receive funding.
  • Finally, it's easy. You will get the same bill from the same utility provider. All you have to do to get started is fill out a short form, or give them a call at 888-763-7659.
Please, click here to start powering your home with 100% local wind energy from Ethical Electric. It's time to feel good every time you turn on a light.

Keep fighting,
